Where are you based?
I live in Milford, Ma but service all of the Metrowest, Ma area.
Do you have a studio?
Yes! My studio is located in Milford, Ma.
What types of sessions do you photograph?
I specialize in maternity through the first year which also includes birth, newborn, and children one year of age and under. Family sessions are offered during peak photography seasons spring through fall. Special mini sessions throughout the year are announced via my private mini session group which can be found on Shannon Leigh Photography’s Facebook page. (you can join here to be a part of it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/186216782069060/
There seems to be a lot of photographers who say they “specialize” in newborns. Should I just look for the one with the best prices?
Price is always at the forefront of any consumers mind, but you have to remember the old saying, “You get what you pay for.” Going with the least expensive photographer is not a good way to determine who will take your baby’s portraits. Most often, the least expensive photographer is also the least experienced photographer. You have to remember, the photographer that you choose will be handling, posing, and soothing your baby. It is far from “ just taking pictures”, it is making sure you are working with someone who knows how to appropriately handle newborns, considers all the safety of your baby first and will provide you with a beautiful final product.
What is your style?
I like to mix organic earthy tones with pops of color that eludes simplicity and emotion with a little vintage flair. I believe my clients, especially newborns should always be the focus of the portrait. Simple is best, I do not like to get caught up on material details. When you look through pictures, ask yourself “What is the first thing I notice?” Are you marveling at how precious the baby is, or finding yourself distracted amidst scenes of fake flowers, huge headbands, tutus, stuffed animals etc.? Always be sure before choosing a photographer that you are attracted to their style, current work and feel that it speaks to your heart and soul.
When do you schedule sessions?
Outdoor sessions I typically schedule on weekdays and weekends one hour or so before the sun sets. This is when lighting is best. The sun is low, soft and luminous. Studio & Newborn sessions are scheduled on the weekends starting at 11am and select Monday's and Fridays between 11AM-4PM. Sessions can book 2-3 months in advance or more during peak seasons or baby booms.
Where do you shoot your outdoor sessions?
I have suggestions for locations based on the style session you’re trying to achieve. All session locations can be discussed as part of your session.
Can I print my images myself?
Sessions require a session fee which does not include any prints, products or digitals. All sessions include a viewing and ordering appointment where you will choose your products A La Carte or from collections. You may choose from digital images, prints, wall galleries and high end exclusive boutique items. For a full list of pricing please reach out via the contact page.
How much will our newborn session cost?
First to book your session with me, you will sign a contract and pay a $100 retainer fee. This fee guarantees that I can get you in for your session within 21 days of delivery. The day of your session the remaining balance of your chosen session is due. Newborn sessions begin at $500 and includes a fully styled studio session, use of prop collection, as well as the time talent and products. Once your session is complete, you will receive an online digital gallery where you will finalize your order. SLP clients typically invest approximately $800- $1200 into their newborn session. Please reach out for a full guide of pricing.
How long after our session will we have our images?
After your session, we will set a date/time for you to come in for your View and Order appointment within 3-4 weeks of your session. You can expect to see a sneak peek on Facebook within 2-3 days of your session date. If you do not want your images posted on FB, please let me know. I will then manually sort through each of your images and choose the best images to provide you with a variety of images to select from. I will then fully retouch each of these images. When you come back for your View and Order appointment, you will see each of your images for the first time. After viewing, you will then choose from the Art Investment Guide to make your selection. I will offer my professional guidance based on your needs, wants, and budget. I offer beautiful wall art as well as heirloom albums, special boutique items and digital images. I require a minimum order of $250 from the art investment guide at your ordering appointment. Once your order has been placed, you can expect to receive any products within 10 business days after cleared payment, special boutique items may take longer. Digital image purchases are available same day.
If we purchase the digital images, can we print anywhere?
If you purchase any digital images you will receive a print release which will allow you to print your images at a location of your choice. However, I highly recommend purchasing enlargements from SLP, chain stores such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Snapfish, Shutterfly etc greatly reduce the quality, color, clarity and often crop of your images. My professional prints are very reasonably priced and will show the true quality of your images. After all, this is an investment and a piece of art to be displayed in your home. You want the best! My prints start at $25 and canvas’ start at $100. I do not give copyright release, only a print release. You are not allowed to crop, alter, edit or change the picture in any form. This includes filters on Facebook and Instagram. All images to social media sites require credit to SLP in either the name or description.
Can I get a copy of my images un-edited and just edit them myself?
No, I do not sell un-edited work as it does not correctly display a final images of SLP and any changes to your images included crops, color adjustments, text, digital frames etc are against the copyright law.
What do I need to do if I have to reschedule? I completely understand that with a crazy hectic life that things happen. I will be in contact with you up until your session date. If you need to reschedule for any reason, please contact me as soon as you know. You are allowed to reschedule for convenience one time and your session fee is transferred. No hard feelings, things come up and I totally understand! I do ask if your child is sick before the session, please let me know so that we can reschedule. Sick, sleepy babies do not make for good pictures and our time is valuable. They also pose a risk for any healthy newborns that come into the studio as well as my own health. I would rather you spend it at home rocking your sweet babies and I’ll do the same until we can get them better and back to themselves!
How do I book my session? Please use the CONTACT tab at the top of the page to put in your initial request to work with me. Once I have received your email I will reply with my full package pricing and information. Once we have settled on a date and chatted about specifics, I will send you a booking proposal via email. Your booking fee is due at the time of this proposal and it must be completed to reserve your date. If you do not complete the proposal, your date is available for others. Email replies are answered on a weekly basis so please do not feel weary if you do not hear back immediately. This is a boutique studio that can fill up quickly and runs by exclusive appointments only.
