Where are you based?
I am based out of Milford, Ma and service all of the Boston and Metrowest, Ma area.
Do you have a studio?
Yes! My dedicated newborn studio is located in Milford, Ma.
What types of sessions do you photograph?
I specialize in maternity through the first year which also includes birth, newborn, and children one year of age and under. Family sessions are offered during peak photography seasons spring through fall. Special mini sessions throughout the year are announced via my private mini session group which can be found on Shannon Leigh Photography’s Facebook page. (you can join here to be a part of it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/186216782069060/
There seems to be a lot of photographers who say they “specialize” in newborns. Should I just look for the one with the best prices?
Price is always at the forefront of any consumers mind, but you have to remember the old saying, “You get what you pay for.” Going with the least expensive photographer is not a good way to determine who will take your baby’s portraits. Most often, the least expensive photographer is also the least experienced photographer. You have to remember, the photographer that you choose will be handling, posing, and soothing your baby. It is far from “ just taking pictures”, it is making sure you are working with someone who knows how to appropriately handle newborns, considers all the safety of your baby first and will provide you with a beautiful final product.
What is your style?
I like to mix organic earthy tones with pops of color that eludes simplicity and emotion with a little vintage flair. I believe my clients, especially newborns should always be the focus of the portrait. Simple is best, I do not like to get caught up on material details. When you look through pictures, ask yourself “What is the first thing I notice?” Are you marveling at how precious the baby is, or finding yourself distracted amidst scenes of fake flowers, huge headbands, tutus, stuffed animals etc.? Always be sure before choosing a photographer that you are attracted to their style, current work and feel that it speaks to your heart and soul.
When do you schedule sessions?
Outdoor sessions I typically schedule on weekdays and weekends one hour or so before the sun sets. This is when lighting is best. The sun is low, soft and luminous. Studio & Newborn sessions are scheduled on the weekends starting at 11am and select Monday's and Fridays between 11AM-4PM. Sessions can book 2-3 months in advance or more during peak seasons or baby booms.
Where do you shoot your outdoor sessions?
I have suggestions for locations based on the style session you’re trying to achieve. All session locations can be discussed as part of your session.
Can I print my images myself?
Yes, all of my packages include a print release which allows you to print your digital images forever and wherever you choose. A list of preferred labs will be given to you to ensure quality printing. For large unique pieces and albums I suggest clients to go through my professional lab where I will create and order the art for you at the upmost luxurious quality.
What is a digital art collection?
I do not believe in handing you digital images and walking away. I want my exclusive clients to feel important and special receiving digital images as well as special boutique heirlooms that tell their story forever. This is why my packages contain digital images as well as prints, albums and wall art. You may also choose to add additional special luxury boutique items onto any package chosen. I want you to keep your memories out for all to enjoy, not inside a desk drawer or on your computer.
How much will our newborn session cost?
First to book your session with me, you will sign a contract and pay a $150 session fee. This fee guarantees that I can get you in for your session within 21 days of delivery. The day of your session the remaining balance of your chosen session is due. Newborn sessions begin at $1,145 and include a fully styled studio session, digital images, luxurious art products, complimentary future sessions, use of prop collection, as well as the time talent and products. Once your session is complete, you will receive an online digital gallery where you will finalize your choices. SLP clients typically invest approximately $1500-3000 into their newborn session. Please reach out for a full guide of pricing.
How long after our session will we have our images?
Within 1-2 weeks of your session you will receive an online gallery where you will choose the images for your package. These images will be unedited. After image choices they will be meticulously edited and finalized for delivery by digital download within 2-3 weeks. Print orders will be placed separately. Delivery time will vary depending on the type of items ordered.
If we purchase the digital images, can we print anywhere?
If you purchase any digital images you will receive a print release which will allow you to print your images at a location of your choice. However, I highly recommend purchasing enlargements from SLP, chain stores such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Snapfish, Shutterfly etc greatly reduce the quality, color, clarity and often crop of your images. My professional prints are very reasonably priced and will show the true quality of your images. After all, this is an investment and a piece of art to be displayed in your home. You want the best! My prints start at $25 and canvas’ start at $100. I do not give copyright release, only a print release. You are not allowed to crop, alter, edit or change the picture in any form. This includes filters on Facebook and Instagram. All images to social media sites require credit to SLP in either the name or description.
Can I get a copy of my images un-edited and just edit them myself?
No, I do not sell un-edited work as it does not correctly display a final images of SLP and any changes to your images included crops, color adjustments, text, digital frames etc are against the copyright law.
What do I need to do if I have to reschedule? I completely understand that with a crazy hectic life that things happen. I will be in contact with you up until your session date. If you need to reschedule for any reason, please contact me as soon as you know. You are allowed to reschedule for convenience one time and your session fee is transferred. No hard feelings, things come up and I totally understand! I do ask if your child is sick before the session, please let me know so that we can reschedule. Sick, sleepy babies do not make for good pictures and our time is valuable. They also pose a risk for any healthy newborns that come into the studio as well as my own health. I would rather you spend it at home rocking your sweet babies and I’ll do the same until we can get them better and back to themselves!
How do I book my session? Please use the CONTACT tab at the top of the page to put in your initial request to work with me. Your booking fee is due at the time of this proposal and it must be completed to reserve your date. If you do not complete the proposal, your date is available for others. Email replies are answered on a weekly basis so please do not feel weary if you do not hear back immediately.
